Android Hacks: Hands-on T-Mobile?s new myTouch Slide Espresso Sense UI

Binary over on XDA got a hold of the system dump from the upcoming myTouch 3G Slide and Domenuk was able to port it to his Mytouch 3G/G1.

I am SO surprised that even in its early state you can see how well this runs on my very limited G1. This may very well be the first SNAPPY 2.1 ROM for the G1.

The myTouch 3G Slide will be T-Mobile?s FIRST phone with Android 2.1 and HTC?s updated Espresso Sense UI and should be released sometime in June.

T-Mobile to Begin Testing UMA Calling on Android Devices

Posted by Ken S. on May 13, 2010 in Android, Smart Phones |

The Boy Genius Report just made an extremely short (2 sentences short) posting claiming they have received word that T-Mobile will begin testing UMA calling on their Android phones sometime in Q3 this year. If you have or had a BlackBerry through T-Mo, you may be familiar with the feature that allows you to make voice calls over your  home’s Wi-Fi network rather than the carriers network. From what I have read, UMA on the BlackBerry could be shoddy unless you purchase T-Mo’s official Linksys router.

T-Mobile to release new myTouch Android phone

Posted by Ken S. on May 4, 2010 in Android, Smart Phones |

The latest Android flavor of the week is the Droid Incredible from HTC.

But T-Mobile wants you to keep an eye out for its myTouch line, which gets a robust update in the myTouch 3G Slide. This new landscape slider, which comes out in June, takes a lot of the best attributes of HTC’s Sense user interface and builds another layer on top.

It creates an even more polished experience, with added touches from T-Mobile that make the phone more social and helpful for users than its predecessor.

Experience With Twitter’s Official Android App

Posted by Ken S. on May 2, 2010 in Android, Smart Phones |

Due to the nature of this release, I’ve written this review in an entirely different style. I hope it doesn’t annoy the lot of you, but it’s literally how I perceived the app as soon as I installed it on my phone. While long-term usage isn’t reflected in my tests, the review should still give you a pretty good idea of the quality you can expect with the installation of this app.

Additionally, I hope to bring you guys a full gallery of pictures as well as a video run-through very soon for the many people unable to try the app out on their sub-2.1 devices.

Another Look At The T-Mobile Garminfone

Posted by Ken S. on May 2, 2010 in Android |

The Garminfone headed for T-Mobile has officially been announced, and we got some pretty clear looking photos of the device to start with. While they did give us a sense of what to expect when you take it out of the packaging, there’s nothing like a good video that allows us to see how things work. Garmin-ASUS went rather deep with their own customization of Android, as expected, to give the phone that “GPS Turn-By-Turn” feel, but it looks like that doesn’t come without some sacrifice.

Android’s 38,000 apps a mixed bag

Posted by Ken S. on April 19, 2010 in Android, Smart Phones |

As with the iPhone, there’s a quantity vs. quality issue for applications

Google’s Android Market is getting crowded, with 38,000 apps, according to the company’s latest earnings call.

Considering that Android gained roughly 8,000 apps since last month, the mobile OS is on pace to top 100,000 apps by the end of the year. But like any app store, the Android Market has a quantity vs. quality issue, and it’s getting harder to ignore as Google beats its chest over app counts.

Swype for Android

Posted by Ken S. on April 6, 2010 in Android, Smart Phones |

I have found what I think one if not the best things to put on a Android phone or any smart phone for that matter.

It is called Swype. It is a keyboard but instead of pressing the keys you move your finger from one letter to another,  I am not doing a very good job of explaining this but check out the Ling I think you will like it.
