HTC Sensation bootloader unlocking tool released

Posted by Ken S. on September 9, 2011 in Android, HTC Sensation |

HTC Bootloader Process

HTC has unveiled the full process for unlocking bootloaders on some of the phones in its 2011 lineup. HTC is sticking to its timeline by starting with compatibility for the European HTC Sensation and promising to bring along support for the Sensation 4G on T-Mobile and the EVO 3D on Sprint later on. The website for the process, HTCdev.com/bootloader, is full of stern warnings, details on how the entire process works, and how any issues you face as a result of unlocking your bootloader won’t be covered under warranty — including any future OTA updates that may not be compatible with your unlocked device.

Android App Turns Smartphones Into Mobile Hacking Machines

Posted by Ken S. on August 8, 2011 in Android, Hacking |
Dangerous hacks come in small packages. Or they will, perhaps, when an app called Anti, or Android Network Toolkit, hits the Android market next week. The program, which Israeli security firm Zimperium revealed at the Defcon hacker conference in Las Vegas Friday and plans to make available to Android users in coming days, is designed for penetration testing–in theory, searching out and demonstrating vulnerabilities in computer systems so that they can be patched. Anti aims to bring all the hacking tools available to penetration testers on PCs to smartphones, with an automated interface intended to make sniffing local networks and owning remote servers as simple as pushing a few buttons.

“We wanted to create a penetration testing tool for the masses, says Itzhak “Zuk” Avraham, founder of Tel-Aviv-based Zimperium. “It’s about being able to do what advanced hackers do with a really good implementation. In your pocket.”

A new Android Market for phones, with books and movies

Posted by Ken S. on July 13, 2011 in Android, Google, HTC Sensation |

Recently, we’ve been hard at work improving Android Market to give you new ways to find great applications and games, purchase books, and rent movies. Today, we’re releasing a new version of Android Market which makes all of these available on phones (Android 2.2 and higher).

In the U.S., you’ll be able to rent thousands of movies, starting at $1.99, right from Android Market on your phone. With the Videos app, available in Android Market, there’s no more waiting for downloads, syncing, or worrying about storage space. Simply sign into Android Market with your Google account, and you can rent movies from anywhere – the web, or your Android phone or tablet – and start watching instantly. You can also download movies to your device so they’re available for viewing when you don’t have an internet connection.

HTC Sensation review

Posted by Ken S. on May 27, 2011 in HTC Sensation, Smart Phones |

A hotly anticipated smartphone with a 1.2GHz dual-core processor, a “Super” 4.3-inch screen, and a manufacturer-skinned version of Android 2.3 — we must be talking about the Samsung Galaxy S II, right? Not on this occasion, squire. Today we’re taking a gander at HTC’s Sensation, a handset that’s just begun shipping in Europe under a short-term Vodafone exclusive and which should be making its way to T-Mobile in the USA early next month. By beating its stablemate the EVO 3D and Moto’s Droid X2 to the market, the Sensation becomes the world’s first 4.3-inch smartphone with qHD resolution, while also serving as the debut phone for HTC’s Watch movie streaming service and Sense 3.0 UI customizations. That leaves us with an abundance of newness to review, so what are we waiting for?

Sensation vs. Galaxy S II: Does qHD make a difference?

Posted by Ken S. on May 24, 2011 in Android, Smart Phones |

One of the lingering questions after our HTC Sensation review earlier this week was just how much of a difference the smartphone’s qHD 960 x 540 resolution display makes over the regular crop of WVGA 800x 480 phones. More pressingly, does Samsung’s Super AMOLED Plus panel on the Galaxy S II, with its surfeit of sub-pixels, hold a candle to the Sensation. There’s only one way to find out: some uber-high-resolution photos in a GSII/Sensation shoot out!

HTC Sensation Review

Posted by Ken S. on May 23, 2011 in Android, HTC Sensation, Smart Phones |

Once, Android’s primary challenge was the iPhone: proving that Google’s open-source platform – and the devices that ran it – were good enough to share retail space with Apple’s groundbreaking smartphone. Now, with dominant market-share and increasingly polished handsets, the battle is between ‘droids. Into the fray drops the HTC Sensation, the company’s new dual-core flagship. It’s certainly the best-spec’d HTC to date, but is it enough to beat Samsung’s all-conquering Galaxy S II? Check out the full SlashGear review after the cut.

The HTC Sensation 4G news just keeps getting better over the weekend as we just received the above screen shot confirming the much rumored June 8th release date. This comes on top of last nights leaked screen shot that confirmed Target’s release date and pricing. However, this date is for T-Mobile directly and we expect that Target will launch the phone on a Sunday which lines up perfectly with the June 12th date.
